You guys! That was me ten years ago – finishing my first (and only to date) triathlon!

Danskin Triathlon

I trained for six months and was in the best shape of my life. I kept fit during the following years through cycling classes and Nia (I even got certified to teach it).

But two years ago, my dad and my dog both passed away within six months of each other and I swirled into depression.

To add a bit of insult to injury, I fell down a flight of stairs and ended up with what my physical therapist called the “dreaded high ankle sprain.” I was well over a year before I could walk without overdoing it and experiencing pain.

Then, a few months ago, I ran into a health hiccup. A fat deposit was discovered on my liver. Multiple specialists suggesting losing weight with the “eat less, move more” mantra.

It wasn’t until I talked to my primary care physician who told me it’s more important to focus on my overall health than weight specifically.

She challenged me to do 15 minutes of something every day for a month. The first month I chose walking on my treadmill. While I admit to not doing it every day, the days I did I felt really good.

So, I’ve become that evangelist. The one who tells others how great movement feels. I’ve inspired a number of people to start getting active.

I hope I can inspire you, too.
